Laurentina Leal de Brito Ladeia is a Brazilian semi-supercentenarian.
BIOGRAPHY
Laurentina Leal de Britto was born on 18 June 1918, in the municipality of Urandi (which at the time was called Umburanas), in Bahia, Brazil, to parents Capitão Ângelo Rodrigues de Britto, a farmer, and Maria Leal de Britto, a seamstress.
She spent her childhood and adolescence on her father’s farm in Águas Vermelhas, Minas Gerais (situated next to the border with Bahia), alongside her five siblings (who were all older than Laurentina): Osval, Oscar, Olídio, Osório, and Laura.
At age 13, she received a marriage proposal, but her father did not allow the marriage due to her young age.
On 26 March 1946, at the age of 27, she married Juvêncio de Souza Ladeia, and took the name Laurentina Leal de Brito Ladeia. She had ten children; six of which are now deceased. Her four surviving children are Eulélio (b. 1949), Maria Angelina (b. 1951), Carlos Fernando (b. 1955), and Juvêncio Filho (b. 1961). The couple lived in both Bahia and Minas Gerais, and her children were born in these two states.
After her husband retired, they settled permanently in Conceição do Jacuípe, Bahia. Her husband passed away on 18 February 2016 at the age of 97. Longevity exists in both her family and her husband’s family. For example, Laurentina’s sister, Laura Leal de Brito Ribeiro (20 March 2017 – 24 October 2020) lived to the age of 103.
At the age of 108, Laurentina’s current routine consists of attending Mass, visiting her children and grandchildren, and looking after her home. She occasionally travels to her daughter’s home in Salvador and to a beach house in Guarajuba, Camaçari, Bahia. Laurentina eats without restrictions, consumes alcoholic beverages in moderation, and enjoys good health, considering her advanced age. She takes pride in her appearance, and her main pastimes are doing crossword puzzles and reading.
Laurentina is affectionately called “Loura”. She currently has 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
