João Marinho Neto, the world’s oldest man, turned 113 on October 5th. Yesterday, he finally held his long-awaited birthday party in his hometown of Apuiarés, Ceará, Brazil.

In photos shared by his family, Senhor João can be seen enjoying the celebration attended by multiple generations of his descendants. Seated behind a large blue birthday cake decorated with his title, “o homem mais velho do mundo” (“the world’s oldest man”), João appeared lively, alert, and in good spirits. Deeply religious, he proudly made the Sign of the Cross as the local priest joined the festivities.

His age was validated by LongeviQuest researchers Iara Souza and Gabriel Ainsworth and unanimously confirmed by the Global Validation Commission. At the time of publication, Senhor João holds numerous longevity distinctions:
