New York Woman Mary Papilon Turns 110

Mary Papilon, a resident of the hamlet Lake Ronkonkoma in Brookhaven, New York, celebrated her 110th birthday, according to town supervisor Dan Panico.

She was born on 3 August 1916 in the Bronx to Italian immigrants. She was an only child. At age 21, she married James Giglio and had four children in Central Islip, New York. He died when Mary was 52 years old, after which she learned to drive. She moved to Florida at age 60 and married Frank Papilon. She moved back to Lake Ronkonkoma on Long Island after 10 years, where she currently resides.

She continued to drive and cook into her 90s. She broke her hip before her 100th birthday, but made a full recovery. Her family credits her longevity to not taking medicine, but on her 108th birthday about her age Mary said “Don’t worry” and “If you don’t use it, you lose it”.

On 30 July 2026, the town of Brookhaven celebrated her 110th birthday,
