BIOGRAPHY

Kame Uei (宇榮カメ) was born in Ōdo, Itoman City, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan, on May 8, 1892.

She supported herself through farming from the prewar period through the postwar years. Around the age of 107, she moved into a nursing home in Naha City. Uei was known for her quiet and gentle personality and was said to enjoy all kinds of food with a healthy appetite.

About a week before her death, she developed a fever and showed signs of weakness, leading to her hospitalization. She passed away from heart failure on January 31, 2003, at the age of 110 years and 268 days.
