Tomé, Biobío RegionRosa Laura Torres Barra, who is currently the oldest (validated) living person in Chile, celebrated her 111th birthday on July 20th.

Born in Tomé, on 20 July 1913 (claimed 11 January), she was one of a set of twins born to parents José Santos Torres Cabrera and Ernestina Barra Soto. Her twin, Rosa Ester, was born 30 minutes after her but died at a very young age. She worked at Bellavista Oveja Tomé Factory, dedicated to the textile industry, for more than 40 years. She never married but had two children: Sonia and Héctor.

On 5 March 2024, following the passing of 113-year-old Eudocia Barría Barrientos, she became the oldest (known) living person in Chile.

Her birthday was confirmed through private correspondence with her family, whom we would like to thank for informing us. However, there was no birthday party, as they celebrate her birthday in January, the month she claims as her birth month.
