Helena Ruczová, the oldest living person in Slovakia, celebrated her 107th birthday in Galanta on 11 June, according to Nový Čas.
Ruczová was born in the village of Veľké Úľany, in the Galanta District of the Trnava Region in southwestern Slovakia, where she lived until the age of 12. Her family then moved to Bratislava, where she spent most of her life. She also lived for periods in Budapest, Hungary, and in the Czech Republic.
She studied at a business academy in Budapest but completed only three of the five years of study because World War II broke out. After the war, she worked in payroll administration and later spent a year in manufacturing. She then worked for 30 years in hotels and restaurants in the Beskid Mountains, starting as a bartender and eventually working her way up to become a hotel manager.
She was married twice. Her first husband, Imrich, whom she married in 1942, was sent to the Russian front during World War II and was killed, leaving her a widow with a young son. In the late 1940s, she married Karol, with whom she had a daughter. Her second husband died in 1984.
On 21 February 2026, following the passing of 107-year-old Juliana Jarošová, she became the oldest known living person in Slovakia.
LongeviQuest extends warm congratulations to Helena Ruczová on her 107th birthday.
