Paulina Hufschmid, a resident of Allschwil, Basel-Landschaft, Switzerland, celebrated her 110th birthday on 2 October, according to Allschwiler Wochenblatt.

Paulina Hufschmid was born in Basel, Switzerland, on 2 October 1915. She was born the second daughter of a butcher and grew up on Lothringerstrasse in the St. Johann district. Paulina completed an apprenticeship as a sales clerk at the Knopf department store on Freie Strasse. Afterward, she worked at Ria, a hosiery shop also located on Freie Strasse. Later, she was employed as a model at the Rheinbrücke department store (now Manor), where she modeled fashion collections for the store’s buyers.

During the Second World War, she served in the Women’s Auxiliary Service. A year after the war ended, she married Ernst Hufschmid, a footballer who had played for FC Basel since 1929 and represented Switzerland at the 1934 World Cup. Their only son, Roger, was born in 1948. Ernst and Paulina initially lived on Blumenrain in the city center before moving to Aeschenplatz. Paulina continued to work even after her marriage and the birth of their son.

She is currently the third-oldest known living person in Switzerland, after Francine Grandjean and Hedwig Zaugg.

LongeviQuest extends warm congratulations to Paulina Hufschmid on her 110th birthday.
