Irene Burrus, a resident of Alexandria, Virginia, USA, passed away on 5 August, at the age of 110 years, 122 days. Her passing was reported by the Tilden Memory Care on their Facebook page.
Irene Burrus was born in Richmond, Kentucky, on 5 April 1915. She had five siblings. She attended Eastern Kentucky State Teachers College in Richmond, which is now known as Eastern Kentucky University. Shortly after completing her studies, she moved to Washington, D.C., along with her sister Ruby Burrus. Both began careers with the federal government. Though Irene and Ruby maintained separate residences, they remained extremely close until Ruby’s passing.
Irene never married or had children. She lived independently in the same apartment in Alexandria, Virginia, for over 50 years.
