In late April, Salon LFC Montréal announced the passing of Maria Lacasse, who died in Montreal on 21 February at the age of 111 years, 77 days.
Lacasse was born in Chertsey, Quebec, on 6 December 1913. She spent her youth in Saint-Calixte before moving with her family to Montreal at 18. She married Octave Moisan, and together they had two sons, Pierre and Richard. Known for her devotion to her family and her exceptional cooking skills, she remained deeply involved in family life.
In her later years, she enjoyed card games and bingo, and before she occasionally accompanied her son Pierre to the casino. At the age of 108, she moved into a public housing center for seniors.
At the time of her passing, she was the nation’s second-oldest known resident, after Margaret Romans.
