Irène Laroche, a resident of Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, Occitanie, France, celebrated her 111th birthday on 23 March, according to the commune’s mayor, Pascale Bories.
Laroche was born in the village of Esparron-la-Bâtie (now part of Bayons) in the department of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region, France, on 23 March 1914.
In 1948, she got married in Avignon. She had a son, who later moved to Costa Rica. She worked as a telephone operator until she retired at the age of 60. Following the passing of her husband in 1981, she kept living at her home in Les Angles, up until she moved into a nursing home in Villeneuve-lez-Avignon in 2017.
