Rosie Cook, a resident of Sylacauga, Alabama, passed away on 8 February, at the age of 112 years, 260 days, according to the Community Funeral Home.

Cook was born in Alabama, on 24 May 1912. Her earliest memory was the passing of her mother when she was about eight years old. Raised by her older siblings, she became a devoted member of Rising Star Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir until she became disabled. She was married for 24 years, but tragically lost her husband to a heart attack while he was still a relatively young man.

Cook likely became Alabama’s oldest resident following the death of 110-year-old Willie McGhee on 12 January 2022. Upon her own passing, it’s likely she was succeeded by Emma Robinson, who celebrated her 111th birthday the following day.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of Rosie Cook during this difficult time.
