Mary Ransopher, the oldest living person in Indiana, USA, passed away in Frankfort on 13 February, at the age of 112 years, 50 days. Her passing was confirmed through a public obituary published by the Shirley and Stout Funeral Home.

Ransopher was born Mary Isabel Farlow on 25 December 1912, in Howard County, Indiana, and grew up on her family’s apple orchard in Russiaville. Raised in a Quaker household, she helped with domestic duties while her family cultivated heritage apple varieties and raised livestock. She vividly remembered historical events like the end of World War I and the arrival of electricity in their home.

In 1935, she married Jesse Marland “Marlin” Ransopher, though the Great Depression delayed their wedding. They had four children and ran a traditional farm in Clinton County for over a decade, embracing innovations like television. After moving into a retirement community in 1994, she continued living independently following her husband’s passing in 2006, until her eyesight declined.

On 24 April 2023, following the death of 111-year-old Charlotte McLauchlin, she became the oldest (known) living person in the U.S. state of Indiana.
