Rita Vantini, a resident of Castel d’Azzano, Veneto, passed away on 21 January, at the age of 110 years, 231 days. Her passing was confirmed by the “Supercentenari d’Italia” website, dedicated to tracking Italy’s oldest living residents.

Vantini was born in Negrar di Valpolicella, Veneto, Italy, on 4 June 1914. She was the youngest of seven siblings. During her childhood, she faced numerous hardships, such as losing her mother and taking on household responsibilities. In 1937, Vantini moved to Castel d’Azzano with her husband, Gino Baetta, where they worked as sharecroppers.

Despite her age, Vantini remained active and engaged in her community. At 103, she participated in a referendum on Veneto’s autonomy. Her commitment was recognised by the regional president, Luca Zaia, and the mayor of Castel d’Azzano.

On 18 March 2023, following the passing of 110-year-old Severina Chiurato, she becale the oldest living person in the region of Veneto, at the age of 108 years, 287 days. After her passing, it is believed that the title passed to Renza Mucelli, who was just three days younger.

Her age was validated by the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO) on 8 July 2024.
