Tzila Cohen (Hebrew: צילה כהן), a resident of Netanya, Israel, celebrated her 110th birthday recently at Netanya’s Laniado Hospital. Her birthday was first reported by JNS.
Cohen was born in Kraśnik, in what is now Poland, in November 1914. She immigrated alone to pre-state Israel (then Mandatory Palestine) in 1936. A prominent figure in Netanya, she took part in the 1958 cornerstone-laying ceremony for the Kiryat Sanz neighborhood, the site where Laniado Hospital now stands.
Until the age of 90, she maintained a daily routine of walking from the Sharon Mall area to the sea in Netanya. Remarkably, even at the age of 102, she lived independently with minimal assistance.
As part of her birthday celebrations, the staff surprised Cohen with a heartfelt message from Israeli President Isaac Herzog, who remarked, “It’s not every day that I have the honor of blessing a citizen of such an advanced age.”
At the moment, she is the second-oldest (known) living resident of Israel, after Adele Samuelson, who turned 110 in October.
LongeviQuest extends warm congratulations to Tzila Cohen on her 110th birthday.
