Phyllis Houghton of Saxilby, Lincolnshire, England, celebrated her 110th birthday on October 29. Her birthday was publicly reported by Model T Ford Register of Great Britain on their Facebook page.
Houghton was born on October 29, 1914, in the village of Nettleham, Lincolnshire. During World War II, while her husband John served in the Army, she worked for a wholesale tobacconist, making deliveries by lorry throughout the county. After John’s return from his service in West Africa, they moved to Doddington Road in Lincoln, where John worked as a solicitor, and Phyllis provided bookkeeping services. They remained in Lincoln until John’s passing in 2000.
When asked about the secret of her longevity, she credited it to hard work, regular exercise, and a daily drop of sherry, and she continued driving until the age of 90.
Following the passing of Bertha Thompson (7 June 1914 – 3 July 2023) of Stickney, she became the oldest (known) living person in Lincolnshire.
