Carrie Pattison was a validated Canadian supercentenarian who died in 2011 at the age of 111. She was once the oldest known living person in Ontario.
Carrie Elizabeth Pattison, born Carrie Elizabeth Gordon, was born in Dundas, Ontario, Canada, on 30 January 1900. She came from a family known for their longevity—her parents lived to 94 and 96. She was courted by her first husband with a horse and buggy. Together, they had four daughters. Widowed early, Pattison managed the family farm during the Great Depression.
In the 1930s, Pattison moved to St. Catharines and worked in a factory for two decades post-World War II. She remarried in the 1940s to Elmo Pattison but was widowed again. Pattison outlived her daughters, sons-in-law, and siblings. She abstained from smoking and drinking alcohol throughout her life.
Pattison passed away at a nursing home in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada on 3 February 2011, at the age of 111. She was survived by her 18 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
Following the death of Italian-born Pasqualina Franco on 16 August 2009, Pattison, then aged 109, became Ontario’s oldest known resident. Upon her own death, the title passed to Scottish native Isabella Hayes.
LongeviQuest congratulates Carrie Pattison’s family on her posthumous recognition.
