LongeviQuest is pleased to announce the age validation of Yūko Satō of Japan at age 112. She was born in Omonogawa, Akita Prefecture, Japan on 29 September 1910. She is currently the oldest living person in Akita Prefecture. Satō was the second daughter among eight siblings.
Satō attended Akita Seirei Girls’ School and married a veterinarian, with whom she had two children. After her husband died in 1945, she raised her children alone while working as a Japanese tailor and helping local farmers. When her daughter-in-law passed away at a young age, Satō also raised her grandchildren.
Satō was dependable and determined, often taking on leadership roles, such as the local women’s director and director of the widow’s association. She enjoyed playing gateball until she was about 85 years old and even won a city tournament. She also occasionally embarked on hot spring trips with her family until she was in her 90s. However, as her legs gradually weakened, she decided to move into a nursing home at the age of 100.
On 6 October 2022, following the death of 113-year-old Mitsuno Sato, she became the oldest living person in Akita Prefecture.
