It is with great sadness that LongeviQuest has to report Puerto Rico’s oldest living person has passed away at 111 years old. Rosa Castrodad Meléndez was a Puerto Rican supercentenarian who was recognized as the oldest known living person in the country. Her age has been validated by the Latin American Supercentenarians (LAS).
Rosa Castrodad Meléndez was born on 20 April 1912 in Cidra, Puerto Rico.
At some point in her life, she married her cousin Pedro Luis Castrodad Meléndez wherein their fathers were brothers. The couple ran a farm with various plants and animals. She also ran a little store that had been open for many years. Her husband passed away in 2009 when he was 96 years old.
Rosa lost one of her breasts because of benign cancer that she got when she was around her 50s or 60s. She also went blind in one eye when she was a centenarian but didn’t need any medication.
