BIOGRAPHY

Senovio Saavedra Muela was born in Majua, Esmeraldas Canton, Esmeraldas Province, Ecuador on 30 October 1912. He married Carmen Vasquez, who suffered from asthma. The couple had eight children: Ramona, Margen, Guadalupe, Isabel, Jose, Seni, Eduardo, and Enrique Saavedra. After his wife’s death around 1991, he moved to San Mateo.

As of November 2020, he had 52 grandchildren, 89 great-grandchildren, and 30 great-great-grandchildren. At the age of 108, he had a visual impairment and was still able to walk with the help of a walker. He was taken care of by his daughters Isabel and Guadalupe Saavedra.

Saavedra Muela died in San Mateo, Esmeraldas, Esmeraldas Province, Ecuador, on 21 February 2023 at the age of 110 years, 114 days.

RECOGNITION

His age was verified by Stefan Maglov and Fabrizio Villatoro, and listed as a pending validation by the LAS as of 19 April 2021.

He became the oldest known (documented) living man in Ecuador, following the death of 110-year-old Julio César Mora Tapia on 22 October 2020.
