María Mercedes Arrocha Graell was a Panamanian supercentenarian whose age has been validated by the Latin American Supercentenarians (LAS).

BIOGRAPHY

Arrocha Graell was born in San Francisco, Veraguas, Panama, on 24 September 1905. Her parents were Catalino Arrocha Saenz (1859–1921) and Clorinda Graell Castroverde (1870–1944). She had 14 siblings.

Arrocha Graell married Francisco Cornejo (1900–1998) and had three children with him: Miriam Teresita (born 1934), Epciades (1936–1936), and Osiris Mercedes (born 1943). Her younger brother, Cesar, was a Panamanian politician and businessman who died on 31 October 2015, at the age of 103.

Arrocha Graell died in Panama City, Panama on 3 July 2018, at the age of 112 years, 282 days.

RECOGNITION

On 6 June 2017, she became the oldest known living person in Panama, following the death of Bienvenida Vergara Jaén de Cano.

Her age was verified by Jeffrey Xu, and validated by the LAS on 6 July 2020.
