Ines Sommovigo was born in La Spezia, Liguria, Italy, on 6 November 1911.
At some point, she married Lorenzo Majoli. Their first child died at the age of four due to being given the wrong injection. They had two more children, sons Angelo and Mario. Her father-in-law, Angelo Majoli, was the founder of Palio del Golfo, a local sporting, cultural and tourist event. During World War II, the family moved to Ostia. During the war, they hid a Jewish family in the cellar of the Majoli house, ensuring the family’s safety from deportation. Her brother-in-law was a partisan commander, and he was also kept hidden away after sustaining a wound.
At the age of 109, she contracted COVID-19, but successfully recovered.
Ines Sommovigo passed away in La Spezia, Liguria, Italy, on 16 March 2024, at the age of 112 years, 131 days.
Her age was validated by the ESO on 30 January 2022.
At the time of her passing, she was the oldest living person in the region of Liguria, and the third-oldest living person in the country, after Claudia Baccarini and Lucia Laura Sangenito.
Upon her passing, Ebe Tosi succeeded her as the oldest living person in Liguria.
