BIOGRAPHY

Tessaku Tominaga was born in Japan on 7 December 1903.

Tominaga was visited by the governor of Nara Prefecture in 2008 and 2013, and the mayor of Sakurai City in 2010, in celebration of Respect for the Aged Day. Responding to a question about his favorite food during the governor’s 2013 visit, he replied, “I’ll eat anything.” He was reportedly fond of Japanese rice cakes. On this occasion, he received a congratulatory letter and gifts.

Tessaku Tominaga passed away in Sakurai City, Nara Prefecture, Japan, on October 29, 2014, at the age of 110 years, 326 days.

RECOGNITION

On 31 May 2012, at the age of 108 years, 176 days, he surpassed the final age of (?) Nakai (Japanese: 中伊藏; 1881–1990), becoming the oldest man to have ever lived in Nara Prefecture.

In December 2013, he celebrated his 110th birthday, becoming the first male supercentenarian in Nara Prefecture.

At the time of his death, he was the third-oldest living man in Japan, behind Yasutaro Koide and Sakari Momoi.

On 3 May 2021, his final age was surpassed by Mikizō Ueda, who succeeded him as the Prefecture’s oldest man ever.
