Teresa Ortiz Giraldo was born in La Alberca, Castile and León, Spain, on 12 July 1909. At one point in her life, she married, but her husband passed away at the age of 59 due to an illness. The couple had four children, two of whom predeceased her. She was a dedicated homemaker and a passionate gardener, selling her homegrown lettuce and tomatoes to wholesalers to support her family. After becoming a widow, she moved to the city of Zamora, where she settled and lived for the rest of her life. She was admitted to the Niño Jesús residence in Zamora on 25 January 2011, at the age of 101.
During the Spanish Civil War, she endured a traumatic experience when the Civil Guard entered her home at night after noticing the lights were on. She was simply putting her children to bed.
Teresa Ortiz Giraldo passed away in Zamora, Castile and León, on 14 July 2019, two days after he 110th birthday.
