Marta Herminia Canevaro Luza was born in Iquique, Tarapacá Region, Chile, on 29 July 1889.
At the age of 111, she was admitted to the National Institute of Geriatrics in Santiago after sustaining a fracture to her left hip.
Marta Herminia Canevaro Luza passed away in Santiago, on 13 April 2001, at the age of 111 years, 258 days.
In July 1999, she celebrated her 110th birthday, becoming the first documented supercentenarian in Chile.
