Maria do Carmo Marques da Cunha Melo is a Brazilian semi-supercentenarian.
BIOGRAPHY
Maria do Carmo Marques da Cunha Melo was born in Borborema, Paraíba, Brazil, on 22 July 1918. She lost her mother at a very early age. She worked until she was 90. She was an educator, a principal, and a school founder. She raised seven children. She always ate dessert—though she never went back for seconds—and would have happily traded any meal for a slice of cake.
Her daughter described her with the following words: “She never complained about life, never failed to get up early in the morning, and never felt old! Playful, sharp, observant, sincere, funny, commanding, incredibly intelligent, and very brave.”
She currently lives in Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil.
