Lucia Soliman was born in Schio, Veneto, Italy, on 17 April 1911. She was the sixth of nine siblings born into a peasant family. At the age of 15, she began working in a factory and later married Luigi (known as “Gigetto”), with whom she had a son. After becoming a widow at a young age, she faced the challenges of raising her son on her own. After retirement, she devoted herself to crochet, which she continued to practice until the age of 99.
In her later years, she became a resident of the Schio Elderly Care Home, where she remained active and lucid until the final year of her life. She was an avid fan of the Italian singer Al Bano, who sent her a personalized gift for her 110th birthday. A month before her passing, she contracted COVID-19 but recovered.
Soliman passed away in Schio, Veneto, Italy, on 15 December 2022, at the age of 111 years, 242 days.
On 16 January 2021, following the passing of 112-year-old Ida Zoccarato, she became the oldest living person in Veneto. Upon her own passing, she was succeeded by Angelina Marcon.
Her age was verified by Paolo Scarabaggio, and validated by the ESO on 28 April 2021.
