BIOGRAPHY

Groß was born in Barsinghausen, near Hanover, Lower Saxony, on 4 October 1907. At the age of 17, she relocated to Erfurt, Thuringia to work with her aunt, assisting on her candy stand. She married Kurt Groß in December 1937 and had three children, two daughters and a son.

At the age of 106, Groß suffered a fall, but had recovered by the time of her 107th birthday. She was cared for in her apartment by her then-65-year-old daughter, Ursel. At 107, in addition to her three children, she had three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. After her daughter died in June 2015, she moved into a local nursing home.

Groß died in Erfurt, Thuringia on 4 March 2018 at the age of 110 years, 151 days

RECOGNITION

At the time of her death, Groß was the second-oldest resident of Thuringia after Ilse Beck, who died later in the same month.
