Frieda Szwillus (née Hennig) was a German supercentenarian. Her age has been validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) and recognised by LongeviQuest.

BIOGRAPHY

Frieda Szwillus was born in Dessau, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, on 30 March 1902. She moved to Erla with her parents and six siblings in 1908.

With her first husband, Richard, she had a son, Karl. Her husband died in 1946, and two years later, she married Martin Szwillus, moving with him and his three children to Raschau. She also had three stepchildren. She did not particularly enjoy traveling, and when she did, it was usually to visit her siblings rather than to go on vacation.

In March 2011, on her 109th birthday, it was reported that she was under almost constant supervision by her family, as she had difficulty orienting herself. However, she was not bedridden, had no illnesses, and took no medication. By that point, she had only taken blood pressure medication once, briefly, before the age of 100.

Later that year, however, she became bedridden for several weeks. By her 110th birthday, her health had improved, and her appetite had returned. She once again enjoyed pancakes and pudding soup, as well as a slice of sausage or a roll with butter and jam, coffee with plenty of milk, and chocolate cookies. By this point, however, she no longer knew how old she was.

Frieda Szwillus passed away in Raschau, Saxony, Germany, on 21 September 2014, at the age of 112 years, 175 days.

RECOGNITION

On 22 April 2014, following the passing of 112-year-old Gertrud Henze, she became the oldest living person in Germany. Upon her own passing, she was succeeded by Johanna Klink.
