Middleman was born in Daysland, Alberta, Canada, on 13 August 1906, to parents Max Goldberg (1870–1943) and Mollie Goldberg (1876–1950). She had four brothers: William David (1904–1957), Morris (1908–1983), Allan Leon (1914–1984) and Bernard (1916–1964). Her father, a tailor, was originally from the historical region of Galicia (then part of Austria-Hungary), while her mother, a midwife, was likely from the present-day Hungary. They settled in Daysland around 1905 with their infant son William David.
In 1925, the family moved to Edmonton, Alberta. At some point, she married Harry Moe Middleman. The couple had one daughter, Janice. The family settled in Calgary.
Middleman worked as a librarian at an elementary school until her retirement at the age of 68. Following her husband’s death in 1985, she started living with her daughter.
Middleman passed away in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, on 3 February 2017, at the age of 110 years, 174 days.
Her age was verified by Stefan Maglov, and validated by LongeviQuest on 12 June 2023.
