Raoul du Plessis de Grenédan was born in Brittany, France, on 25 April 1915. According to geneanet, he married Geneviève Marie Marthe Ogier de Baulny in February 1940, and the couple had five children. He was survived by 19 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
At the time of his passing, he was the second-oldest living man in France, after Maurice Le Coutour.
