BIOGRAPHY

Fiorinda Rogante de Godoy was born in Santa Lucia, São Paulo, Brazil on 7 May 1913 (claimed 26 June). Her parents, Domingos Rogante and Joanina Anzelota, were Italian immigrants who arrived in Brazil in 1901, where they settled in Santa Lúcia. They worked on coffee farms. She had nine siblings, all of whom she survived. The family eventually moved to Dobrada, where young Fiorinda met her future husband.

On 23 September 1933, she married Paulo de Godoy, with whom she had a daughter, Aparecida de Godoy (1935–2017). Their marriage only lasted for six years before her husband’s passing. She was left to raise her daughter on her own. At some point they moved to Potirendaba, where she was hired to work as a maid. When her daughter grew up, they moved to Araraquara with the help of her family, where her daughter got employed. The two lived together in their own house until 1959, when Aparecida got married, and Fiorinda moved in with her daughter and her new son-in-law. She helped to raise her two grandchildren, and used to make and sell crochet pieces to support the family.

On 27 June 2017, the day after her claimed 104th birthday, her only daughter passed away. She had two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Fiorinda Rogante de Godoy passed away in Araraquara, São Paulo, Brazil, on 20 May 2024, at the age of 111 years, 13 days.
