BIOGRAPHY

Eunice Anício da Silveira was born in Joanésia, Minas Gerais, Brazil, on 21 October 1915.

Eunice married Oswaldo de Carvalho Lage on 26 February 1932, at the age of 16. They were married for 74 years and ten months until his passing in 2007. The couple had 15 children in total; two passed away in infancy, while the remaining 13—ten girls and three boys—survived. All ten daughters shared the first name Maria, and two of them were twins. Of the sons, one was named Sebastião, while the other two were both named Augusto. Eunice humorously recalled that her husband, known for his forgetfulness, once went to register one of their sons and returned saying he had named the boy after his father, completely unaware that he had already given the same name to another son.

Eunice had always lived in the countryside, and at the age of 100, she remarked that she had never been sick and never took any medication. When asked about the secret to her longevity, she attributed it to going to bed early and rising early, drinking plenty of milk, working hard, and eating only what she produced on the land where she lived. As of January 2025, she had nine living children, 48 grandchildren, 86 great-grandchildren, and 43 great-great-grandchildren, as well as one living sister.
