Anna Downing (née Lusk) was an American supercentenarian who was the oldest living person in the state of Michigan. Her age is currently pending review by LongeviQuest.

BIOGRAPHY

Downing was as Anna Lusk born on 6 January 1883 (claimed 1884) in Ovid, Clinton County, Michigan to parents Augusta Sickels and Lycurgus Lusk, a cheesemaker from New York. She was the youngest of nine children. Lycurgus, also known as L.D., was also a Civil War veteran who died when Anna was 12.

She attended Argubright Business College in 1911-1912 and worked for the accounting department of the W.K. Kellogg company.

She married Lisle Downing in 1920 and they had two sons: Lisle Jr. and Harold. After marriage, her and husband worked in the meat and grocery business until they retired in 1944. Lisle died in 1944, but Anna stayed in the Battle Creek area until she turned 100, when she moved to live with her son Harold in East Jordan.

Anna Downing died on 7 September 1993 in East Jordan, Charlevoix, Michigan at the age of 110 years, 244 days.

RECOGNITION

Anna Downing became the oldest living resident of Michigan following the death of 110-year-old Bertha Davis. She was succeeded as the oldest living person in Michigan by Flora Curren.
