Aldina Durão de Carvalho is a Brazilian semi-supercentenarian.

BIOGRAPHY

Aldina Durão de Carvalho was born on 9 January 1918 in the locality of Canivete (now a neighborhood), which is situated next to Juparanã Lagoon, in the municipality of Linhares, Espírito Santo, Brazil. She is the daughter of Joaquim José de Amorim Durão and Maria Gustavo Durão.

Aldina was blessed to have grown up in a large, loving family alongside eight siblings, sharing dreams and memories intertwined with the simplicity of life. Her childhood was marked by swimming in the lagoon, fishing, ring games, and stories told around the wood-burning stove.

Although she spent a year living at the home of her sister, Fausta Durão Aragão, in the city center – where she attended the Bartouvino Costa School – Aldina never abandoned her roots in Canivete, a place where she built her family, and which still holds her essence and memories to this day.

On 30 December 1943, Aldina married José Carlos da Gama, a farmer. She had two daughters: Gláucia (born 1946) and Maria das Graças (born 1951). She became a widow, and married again on 11 June 1981 to Percy de Carvalho, a World War II veteran who was divorced and retired.

Her family tree has flourished over the years, filling her life with joy through nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren – a legacy that embodies the love and teachings she has always cultivated.

At 108, Aldina remains a true inspiration: clear-minded and possessing a welcoming smile, she loves receiving visitors, having a cup of coffee, and basking in the morning sun. She has long-enjoyed football, being a supporter of Flamengo and the Brazilian National Team. Her eyes light up during every match, showing that her love for the sport reflects the vitality she still carries within.
