by Stefan Maglov | Jun 26, 2026 | Death Reports, News

Margaret Cryer, the third-oldest living person in the UK, passed away in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, on 23 June, at the age of 112 years, 210 days.

Cryer was born in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, England, on 25 November 1913.

On 13 March 2023, following the passing of Ada Thompson, she became the oldest (known) living person in West Yorkshire. At the time of her passing, she was the nation’s third-oldest resident, after Ethel Caterham, 116, and Merah Smith, 113. Cryer was also the last surviving person in the UK who was born in 1913.

According to the Oldest in Britain website, which tracks the oldest living people in the United Kingdom, Cryer’s likely successor as the oldest living person in West Yorkshire is possibly Alice Bagley, 107, of Leeds.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of Margaret Cryer during this difficult time.
