Maddalena Banchero, a resident of Santa Margherita Ligure, Liguria, Italy, celebrated her 110th birthday on 3 October.
Maddalena Banchero was born in Santa Margherita Ligure, on 3 October 1916. She had four sisters. Her husband, Ignazio Ceresola, was from Sestri Levante. They met in Velva, in the countryside, where he had a house and her family often spent time. After their marriage, they lived in Sestri Levante for a while before moving to Santa Margherita, where their children grew up. Her husband worked at the customs office at the shipyard in Riva Trigoso.
They had four children. Their eldest died at the age of 44, followed by Lorenzo, Michele, and Angela Maria (Mariangela). According to her daughter, she was a homemaker throughout her life. She enjoyed sewing and even took sewing classes, making clothes for herself and her children. She did not sew for others, but solely for her family.
At the age of 108, she had eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. A day before her 110th birthday, she was reported to still be lucid. She could sometimes walk with the support of one arm and at other times used a cane. She was still able to move around her home independently, using the furniture for support when necessary.
