BIOGRAPHY

Ana Joaquina Rivera Orrego was born in Santa Rita de Ituango, Antioquia, Colombia, on 5 September 1910. At the age of 18, she married Marco Julio Muriel. The couple had nine children (four sons and five daughters). Their eldest child was Ana Adelfa Muriel (born 1930). She lived in Santa Cruz (Medellín) for 27 years, and later in Bello (Antioquia) for eight years.

Her husband passed away in Santa Cruz around 1980. At some point in her late-life, she suffered from a stroke. At the age of 103, she had over 200 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Rivera de Muriel passed away in Medellín, Antioquia Department, Colombia, on 11 February 2021 at the age of 110 years, 159 days. At the time, she lived with her oldest daughter, Adelfa, who was 90 years old.

RECOGNITION

Her age was verified by Santiago García Medina and Stefan Maglov, and validated by the LAS on 3 May 2021.
