BIOGRAPHY

Miton was born in the commune of Cély in the Seine-et-Marne department, Île-de-France region, France, on 5 April 1910. Her parents were Auguste Boumier (1887–1912) and Marie Pommier (Paumier) (1888–1963). She had two younger half-brothers. At the age of 7, she was already working hard in the fields of Perthes-en-Gâtinais alongside her mother and stepfather, Fernand.

Before getting married and starting her family, she worked in packaging at “La Cooper,” the French pharmaceutical cooperative based in Melun. After marrying, she went on to have two children. Her daughter Josiane was born during World War II. The family had to move because they lived near the Melun station, which was a target of bombings. They stayed with family friends for a few months, and a year before the end of the conflict, they moved to Dammarie-les-Lys.

According to her daughter, she had never experienced any major health problems, except for breaking her femur at the age of 93. Following an operation, she recovered and was discharged from the hospital. Until she was 100, she cooked for herself, crocheted, and never took any medication. When asked about her mother’s longevity, her daughter mentioned that the doctor attributed it to her particularly healthy diet in the early years of her life, as she ate what her parents grew. She also never smoked or drank alcohol.

In 2013, she moved in with her daughter, Josiane, in Savigny-le-Temple. Prior to that, she had been living with her son in Fontainebleau until his passing. At the age of 107, it was reported that she was in good health, and one of her daily activities was reading the day’s news in the newspaper. At the time, she had great-great-grandchildren.

Miton passed away in Savigny-le-Temple, on 17 December 2021, at the age of 111 years, 256 days.
