LongeviQuest is pleased to announce the age validation of Charlotte Allen of the United States at age 110. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, United States on 6 February 1878 to Scottish immigrant parents
Allen taught for several years before earning her medical degree at age 39. She opened a private practice in Manhattan, later transitioning to a corporate role at the New York Telephone Co. Married for 18 years, she remained professionally known as Dr. Allen. After retirement, she ran a rest home for elderly women until her mid-90s.
On 6 May 1988, following the death of 110-year-old Theresa Emanuel of Ottumwa, she became the oldest living person in the U.S. state of Iowa.
At 103, Allen traded her New York home for a senior living center in Iowa. Attributing her long life to faith and a medicine-free approach, she eventually found communicating her thoughts challenging, though her mind remained sharp.
Allen passed away in West Des Moines, Iowa, USA, on 23 October 1988, at the age of 110 years, 260 days. Upon her death, Grace Cottrell succeeded Allen as the State’s oldest living person.
LongeviQuest congratulates Charlotte Allen’s family on her posthumous recognition.
