Dorothy (Dot) Vine, a resident of Waratah, New South Wales, Australia, passed away shortly before her 110th birthday. Her death was first announced on Instagram by Sharon Claydon MP, Labor Member for Newcastle.

Dorothy was born on 16 April 1915, on Koro Levu Island, Fiji. She later moved to Australia.

On 12 April 2024, she celebrated her 109th birthday early with a High Tea at the Bupa Aged Care facility in Waratah. The City of Newcastle RSL Pipe Band performed a few tunes, including a rendition of Happy Birthday. On 16 April 2025, the nursing home marked what would have been her 110th birthday. Though she had passed just days before, the staff chose to honour her memory. Sharon Claydon said Dorothy “touched the hearts of many with her warmth, wisdom, and grace.”

Dorothy Vine was the oldest known person ever born in Fiji. At the time of her passing, she was among the ten oldest known living people in Australia.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of Dorothy Vine during this difficult time.
