Charlotte Benoît, the oldest living person in France’s Grand Est region, passed away in Saint-Mihiel on 1 March, at the age of 110 years, 179 days, according to L’Est Républicain.
Charlotte Benoît was born in the commune of Vaucouleurs in the Meuse department in the Grand Est region, on 3 September 1914. She was the daughter of a cooper from Champigneulles and a newspaper carrier from Essey-lès-Nancy.
On 21 September 1935, in Maxey-sur-Vaise, she married Maurice Benoît, a schoolteacher. Together, they had four children: Michèle, Christiane, Pierre, and Catherine. Their family later grew to include six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A passionate music lover, she studied piano at the Nancy Conservatory and performed at balls during the Liberation, accompanied by her husband, who played the violin. As Maurice’s career led them from school to school, the family moved frequently, eventually settling in Bannoncourt when he retired in 1966.
On 28 November 2016, at the age of 102, she moved into the nursing home in Saint-Mihiel.
On 19 January 2025, following the passing of 110-year-old Victorine Burghard, she became the oldest living person in the region of Grand Est, at the age of 110 years, 138 days. Upon her own passing, she was succeeded by Denise Barreau.
