Fujiko Mihara, the oldest living person in Ehime Prefecture and the fourth-oldest in Japan, passed away in Matsuyama on 18 December, just five days after celebrating her 114th birthday.
Fujiko Mihara (三原富士子) was born in Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture, Japan on 13 December 1910.
In September 2022, she was reported as the oldest living person in Ehime Prefecture for the first time. It is believed she may have held the title as early as November 2021, when the previous oldest resident, Misao Asada (born 7 September 1910), was last confirmed alive and entered “limbo status.”
At the time of her passing, Mihara was the second-oldest person ever to have lived in Ehime Prefecture, surpassed only by Osugi Sogo (1905–2019), who was 77 days older at the time of her death. Mihara was the fourth-oldest living person in Japan, after Tomiko Itooka, Okagi Hayashi, and Mine Kondō. She was also the oldest living person in Shikoku, the nation’s smallest region by population, and the 12th-oldest living person in the world.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of Fujiko Mihara during this difficult time.
