Hélène Gruat, the oldest living person in the French department of Bouches-du-Rhône, passed away in Roquefort-La Bédoule, on 29 November 2024, at the age of 111 years, 266 days. Her passing was confirmed by her obituary published on Simplifia.

Gruat was born as Hélène Rambaud in Paris on 8 March 1913. Her birthplace was in the Seine department until New Year’s Day 1968, when it was incorporated into Paris. Her occupation was an executive secretary, working in Paris. Widowed in the 1980s, she lived alone for several years before moving to Aubagne to live with her only son.

Gruat lived independently in Gémenos until 27 August 2019 when, at the age of 106, she moved into a nursing home in the Le Domaine de la Source nursing home in Roquefort-la-Bédoule. On her 108th birthday, it was reported that she was in good health and could still walk. On her 111th birthday, it was reported that she remained cheerful and lucid. The nursing home staff described her as very pleasant, always smiling, and mentally sharp, though she no longer expressed herself verbally.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of Hélène Gruat during this difficult time.
