Mercedes de la Asunción Brenes Estrada was a validated Nicaraguan supercentenarian known as the oldest person to live in the country, at the time of her death.
Mercedes Brenes Estrada was born on 15 August 1910 in Jinotepe, Carazo Department, Nicaragua.
At some point in her life, she got married to Manuel López Mayorga who was an industrial worker. The couple then had six children together.
She dedicated herself to her household chores but learned to make paper flowers, which she sold on custom orders.
At the age of 106, she was able to read without glasses. At the age of 113, she was taking medication for hypertension.
Mercedes Brenes Estrada passed away on 5 July 2024 in Managua, Nicaragua, at 113 years old.
