LongeviQuest is saddened to report that Milton Thiago de Mello, a Brazilian primatologist, died at 108 years old.

Milton Thiago de Mello was born on 5 February 1916 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He is a Brazilian centenarian who is also a professional veterinarian and zoological researcher. In his life in this profession, he received numerous prestigious awards from governments and organisations such as the Comité Français de l’Association Mondiale Vétérinaire, the World Veterinary Epidemiology Society, the Sociedad Colombiana de Primatologia and the John Guggenheim Memorial. 

He also authored over 150 scientific research papers on primates, brucellosis, bubonic plague, and medical mycology among others.

It is stated that almost all primatologists from Brazil studied under the guidance of de Mello.

At some point in her life, she got married to a psychiatrist and had three children with her.

When asked about his secret on longevity, he said “What do I owe my longevity to? I owe it to my health. When I was a teenager, I wanted to be a macho man.”

He passed away on 1 October 2024 at the age of 108 years old.
