Gunnel Stenbäck is a validated Finnish supercentenarian known as the current oldest living person in the country.

Gunnel Stenbäck was born on 21 September 1914 in Lumparland,  Åland Islands, Finland.

In 1933, she completed her studies at Kotka Lyceum High School. That same summer, while attending a Christian gathering in Kokkola, she found her purpose in life. She was encouraged to apply to the Deaconess Institute, and the following year, she enrolled in the Nursing School at the Helsinki Deaconess Institute.

By 1943, she had been ordained as a deaconess and served the Swedish-speaking congregation in Sörnäinen for about a decade. Her passion for supporting individuals with mental disabilities prompted her to embark on study trips across Europe and America in the 1950s, initially funded by scholarships. Over time, her journeys expanded to nearly 50 countries worldwide. She retired at the end of 1977.

She currently resides in Helsinki, Finland, at 110 years old.
