The oldest known living resident of Canada, Mrs. Gertruda Górecka, passed away on June 25th in Windsor, Ontario, at the age of 112 years, 226 days. Her passing was confirmed by an obituary published by Windsor Chapel Funeral Home.

Mrs. Gorecka was born in Poland (then Russian Empire), on 12 November 1911. In her younger years, she worked as a seamstress and had a passion for sewing costumes for a local theater. She loved playing the harmonica and continued to do so until a few years ago. She got married and went to have one daughter.

Gorecka spent most of her life in her homeland of Poland, relocating from the city of Szczecin to Windsor, Ontario at the age of 91 to join her daughter and grandson after undergoing hip surgery. At 77, she overcame cancer, and at 94, she underwent surgery for gallstones.

On 18 April 2024, following the passing of 112-year-old Helen Doan, she became the oldest living person in Canada.

LongeviQuest sends our deepest condolences to the bereaved family and friends of Mrs. Górecka.
