LongeviQuest is delighted to report that Yūko Satō, the oldest known living person in Akita Prefecture, Japan, celebrated her 113th birthday on 29 September 2023. LongeviQuest Japan has sent flowers to celebrate her special day.
Yūko Satō was born in Omonogawa, Akita Prefecture, Japan on 29 September 1910. She was the second daughter among eight siblings born to a landowner. She attended Akita Seirei Girls’ School and later married a veterinarian. When her husband died in 1945, Satō raised her 2 children and grandchildren independently, while also working as a tailor and helping local farmers.
Satō was known to be reliable and strong-willed, so she often took on leadership roles, such as director of the local women’s group and the widow’s association. She enjoyed playing gateball until she was about 85 years old and even won a city tournament. Satō also continued to go on hot spring trips with her family until her 90s. However, her legs gradually weakened, and she moved into a nursing home at the age of 100.
On 6 October 2022, she became the oldest living person in Akita Prefecture following the death of 113-year-old Mitsuno Sato.
LongeviQuest sends our warmest congratulations to Mrs. Yūko Satō and her family. We wish you good health and happiness.
