Winifred Lansdown

Winifred Millicent Lansdown (née Strachan) was a British-born American supercentenarian who was among the oldest living people in California. Her age has been validated by the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO).

Biography

Lansdown was born as Winifred Millicent Strachan in Northwich, Cheshire, England on 14 January 1887 as one of three daughters born to William Hunter Strachan and Eliza Withers, the latter of whom died in 1890. Her father later remarried.

Lansdown married her husband, Christopher Bernard Lansdown, in 1912. On 9 May the following year, the couple emigrated to the United States on board the SS Baltic, settling in Tacoma, Washington. They had three sons: Ian, Bernard, and Eric. By the time of Eric’s birth, the family were living in Marin County, California.

Lansdown died in Phelan, San Bernardino County, California at the age of 110 years, 12 days. She is believed to have been the fifth-oldest person in California after Christian Mortensen, Lena McLachlan, Frances Johns, and Carrie Davis. Her son, Ian Strachan Lansdown, celebrated his 100th birthday in July 2013.
