Sirkka Nieminen

Sirkka Mirjam Nieminen (née Heinonen) was a Finnish supercentenarian who was the oldest resident of the country upon her death. She is also among Finland’s top 10 oldest people ever. Her age has not been validated by LongeviQuest (LQ).

Biography

Nieminen was born as Sirkka Mirjam Heinonen in Turku, Southwest Finland on 28 April 1912. Her birthplace was part of the Russian Empire until 1918. In 1952, she married Toivo Armas Nieminen, a divorcee with three children, who died in 1978 aged 82.

Following the 18 July 2022 death of Astrid Qvist, Nieminen became the oldest living person in Finland. She died on 13 January 2023 in Helsinki, Finland’s capital city, at the age of 110 years, 260 days. Her successor as Finland’s oldest resident was 109-year-old Helvi Kissala.
